Mother’s Day and Mothering God
May 11, 2009 by spiritualreflections
Here is something to ponder on this Mother’s Day. This quote is from Pope John Paul I in his papal address at St. Peter’s Square in 1978.
“God is our father; even more,
God is our mother…
if children are ill…
or they are sick with badness
and are on the wrong track…
they have an additional claim
to be loved by their mother….”
May all of us, women and men who are made in the image and likeness of God, live in the nurturing love of the Spirit. May we be enveloped by the love of God who is both father and mother, sister and brother, grandfather and grandmother – lover of us all. This week and every week of our lives, may we dwell in the love of God.
